The Half Marathon
For the first time in my life I ran 21km. It was a shade of my peers' full 42km marathon. But the half-marathon, to me, was indeed a great achievement.
I was really amazed about how determined one person can be if he focuses on finishing.
Refusing to sit/rest, I trudged on for the last 5km on a strained double thigh... think I strained my ankle area's ligament or something in the process. Nearly fell twice on my pulled calves. It's amazing. Never before did I realized how excruciating a run may be for the folks who run such distances... those scenes where people actually collapse on the floor. I've seen a guy collapse and struggle to stand up and continue. That's why when the first-aiders asked me to sit and rest, I refused blatantly. Stupid move. I think it was just the stubborn and fiesty (always want win) attitude. Anyway, I learnt a lesson from the half-marathon... I really enjoy winning and completing what I set out to achieve... regardless of anything else that happens.
Met a RJC year 1 girl while I was resting at the finishing tentage... she was so hyper... guess sometimes the achievement of finishing what one seemed as impossible can provide sufficient reason for one to be legally on the 'high'... wow! I think she is a sailor... and we had a short chat as we cooled down in the shade... ha... you can probably sense the happy achievement she felt as she spoke! I learnt something.
Met Regina in SMU as I went there for a fresh change. We had a nice Chat. Enjoy e trek regina... :) Smile!
Reached home and zonked out for about 2 hours... my calves are still strained as I type now... ha...
Wonderful bbq by the Econs folks... thanks KC & lucas for organizing the BBQ... I guess econs is really fun with some folks around. Was glad to talk to SB about the marathon too... hoping XR's Ok. Met some new friends too. Interesting evening at ECP.
